The Colombia digital nomad visa is a Type V (Visitor) visa introduced in 2022 under Resolución 5477, designed for remote workers, freelancers, and online entrepreneurs whose income comes entirely from outside Colombia. It lets you live in Colombia for up to 2 years, with the exact validity period set at the discretion of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Who Qualifies for the Colombia Digital Nomad Visa
1. Income of at least 3 times the Colombian minimum wage. This is where 2026 changed things. Following a 23% minimum wage increase (Decree 1469 of December 2025), the monthly minimum rose to COP 1,750,905, which puts the digital nomad threshold at 3 times that, roughly COP 5,252,715 per month. Because the threshold is pinned to the minimum wage and evaluated at the exchange rate on the review date, income is checked month by month with no averaging allowed. Apply with a buffer of $150 to $200 above the minimum so a currency swing on the wrong day does not sink your application.
2. Six months of remote work proof. Client contracts, an employer letter, or a motivational letter for entrepreneurs, showing your income comes from outside Colombia.
3. Health insurance valid in Colombia with adequate coverage and repatriation, a valid passport with 6 months remaining, and a passport photo.
Government fees run about $54 for the study of the application plus roughly $177 on issuance, with a small additional cost for the cédula de extranjería (foreigner ID) after arrival. Processing typically takes 2 to 6 weeks through the Cancillería portal.
